Points to Consider During Pool and Spa Inspection
If there is a pool or spa in the home you are intending to buy, you must consider numerous factors to ensure the safety. Following is a list of potential problems that you might find during your inspection.
- Leaks in inlet and outlet connections, and in some equipments, such as in hoses, fittings, heater etc.
- Missing, tiles, mars or damage in pool surfaces
- Check for electrical grounding system and ground fault interrupters. It is very likely that there is no fault circuit interrupter protection, or if any, that might not be installed properly. Make sure that ground fault interrupters must protect all electrical equipments.
- Some of the pool chemicals react violently and are very poisonous. Therefore, make sure that they are stored carefully to avoid such accidents.
- Moreover, such harsh chemicals can deteriorate waterlines and equipments.
- Sometimes, harsh chemical odor, usually from chlorine, proves very harmful for the eyes and the mucous membrane. It may also result in bleached swimwear and hair discoloration.
- Make sure that the pool filter is effective, and all the pool and spa equipments are working properly.
- There must be separate grounding system for pools and spas. Moreover, look for the ladders, stands etc, and make sure they are also grounded to the same line.
- Loose or broken springboard can lead to very serious injuries for the user. Therefore, precisely check if they are properly installed. Diving boards and slides should be properly oriented, and securely anchored to the pool deck.

- Look carefully for problems with the pumps, such as noise. You should also look for rust and leaks in pumps and piping.
