Look For a Durable Tile Floor

Floors take the maximum beating, day in and day out. When conducting your interior home checking prior to buying a house it is better to check the condition of flooring and its condition. There are a variety of tiles that are used in various areas of the house. Glazed tiles, bricks, slates, wood, are some of the many materials for floor tiles. The tiles you may find suitable in the patio will definitely not be suitable for use in the bathroom, or in the kitchen. Check to see if the homeowner has used tiles correctly all over the house.

Tiles are slippery and may cause accidents. See if slip resistant treatment has been given to the floor tiles. Many people use carpets to prevent slip on the tiles. It is advisable that you remove the carpet to check the condition of the floor tiles. If the floor has wood tiles or vinyl tiles, check their condition. Be particularly careful in the case of wooden tiles to ensure that the wood is free from termites and pests. Hardwood floors are exceptional and need to be polished regularly.

Different Floor Tiles

If you find that certain areas have parquet tiles, check to see that they have not been exposed to dampness. Moisture will cause the parquet tiles to swell and buckle. Inspect the type of tiles used in the kitchen and bathrooms. Glazed tiles are ideally suited for kitchens, counter tops, and bathrooms. Glazing adds a non-porous element that is water resistant.

Places where there is heavy movement, stones would be an ideal choice. Limestone is a porous material and will need to be sealed, and the process repeated about twice a year. If you find limestone flooring, check to see if sealing has been carried out.

Wood tiles provide a warm feeling and many people use them in their kitchens. If the house you are inspecting has wooden tiles on the kitchen floor, check to see if pre-finished wood has been used, as it would withstand heavy traffic and water stains.

Cracked tiles, and missing tiles could be replaced, but the chances are that you may not get the matching tiles. In addition, certain tiles may be hard to find, as they may have gone out of style.

Repairing Discolored Grouts

The grouts between the tiles are discolored with use, and look very shabby. This can be corrected by applying a tile grout coating. Clean the floor before applying the coat. It does not matter if the coating gets on the tiles. This can be wiped out after the coating is dried – which takes about 24 hours.
