Ensuring That Kitchen Appliances Are In Working Condition
When considering buying a house that comes fully equipped, your interior home checking should include inspection of the kitchen appliances as well. Either you or your home inspector must check all the kitchen appliances that come with the house. After all, you are paying for them and expect them to be in good working condition.
See how old these appliances are. Are they older models, or comparatively modern? Do they seem to be damaged, or are they in a pristine condition? Do you see any scratches on them?
Gas or Electric Stove
Inspect whether the stove runs on gas or is it an electric one. People have their own personal ideas about electric or gas stoves. Some feel that the gas stove is much economical to run, whereas some people find the electric stove more efficient.
It is all a matter of personal choice. Gas stove and ovens are cheaper to operate, and heat and cool very fast, whereas the electric stoves and ovens take time to heat and cool. Gas ovens cause air pollution by releasing Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen Dioxide.
Checking Other Kitchen Appliances
You need to confirm whether there is a garbage disposal or not, and if there is one, whether it is in working condition or not. Though an 1 HP (Horse Power) motor is ideal, depending on the garbage you intend to dispose of, check to see that the disposer has at least a ½ HP motor. Check the condition of the blades. In addition, is there any trash compactor? Check carefully whether it is working properly or not. These appliances have become so much a part of modern living that they need to be in proper working order always.
Check to see if the dishwasher is working and whether it is silent while in operation. You need to find out the condition of the dishwasher racks – they should not be rusted or broken. Check the condition of its filter. This will give you the idea of the quality of maintenance done.
What arrangements are there for instant hot water? Is there a small geyser installed? Is the hot water equipment working properly? Is there a microwave oven? Is it built-in or a standalone unit? Ensure that it is in working condition. The garbage disposal, the trash compactor, and the microwave should not be more than 10 years old.
What is the type of kitchen hood used? Is it a traditional hood that is placed on the stove? On the other hand, is it a wall chimney, island chimney, or a standalone type? Ensure that the hood works efficiently and does not spew the fumes all over the kitchen.
